The Digital Thread
The "Digital Thread" is the seamless flow of data throughout the product lifecycle. In ProdExec, this thread ensures that every manufactured item is tied to its specific engineering requirements and execution history.
Data Hierarchy
To maintain integrity across global sites (like Bubba Motor Works), ProdExec organizes data in a strict, logical flow:
1. Product Family
The template for a group of similar products. It defines the shared attributes, quality checks, and configuration rules.
- Examples: V8 Engine Block, Heavy Duty Transmission.

2. Route
The sequence of operations required to build a product. A Route is mapped to a Product Family and defines the "How-To" for the shop floor.
- Steps: Casting -> Machining -> Inspection -> Shipping.

3. Work Order
The specific instance of production. A Work Order takes a Route and turns it into a set of tasks for a specific quantity of items.
- Details: SN-001 through SN-500, scheduled for Production Line A.

Why the Thread Matters
Without a connected digital thread, companies often suffer from "data silos" where engineering changes don't reach the floor, or floor quality issues aren't reported back to engineering. ProdExec ensures that every bit of data from the Product Family is inherited by the Route, which is then locked into every Work Order for perfect traceability.
